Barishal coastal areas flooded due to low pressure

The coastal areas of the southern region have been flooded due to the increase in the water level of major rivers including Bishkhali, Meghna, Baleshwar, Kacha. On Friday July 25, 2025.

The abnormal increase in the water level of this tide has occurred due to the new moon and low pressure, according to Water Development Board sources.

In addition to the new moon, due to low pressure, strong tides have been created, and this increase has also been accelerated due to the wind.

Due to the increase in water, low-lying areas including Barisal city have been flooded.

Low-lying areas of Palashpur, Amanatganj, and Rupatli areas of Barisal city have been flooded, causing waterlogging in houses of the area. Due to the strong tide, knee-deep water is flowing in the gangway of the Bhola River Port. As a result, ferry services have been closed.

According to the Water Development Board, Barishal office, the river gauge (gauge reader) sources, till 3 pm on Friday, the Bishkhali River of Bargunais flowing 31 centimeters above the danger level at Barguna point, 45 centimeters at Patharghata point, and 16 centimeters above the danger level at Jhalaokathi point.

The Payra River is flowing 29 centimeters above the danger level at Mirzaganj point of Patuakhali district and 18 centimeters above the danger level at Amtoli point of Barguna.

Besides the Meghna River is flowing 80 centimeters above the danger level at Daulatkhan point and 1.45 meters above the danger level at Tajumuddin point in Bhola district.

The Kacha River of Pirojpur district is flowing 23 centimeters above the danger level at Umedpur point, the Baleshwar River is flowing 30 centimeters above the danger level at Pirojpur point.

Deputy Assistant Engineer of the Water Development Board Tajul Islam said that the Meghna River is flowing at its highest level of 74 centimeters at Tajumuddin point, resulting in a maximum water level increase of 5 feet, more than normal.
