Smuggling goods worth tk 47 crore seized at Sylhet border in 1 month

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized around 47 crore taka of smuggled goods coming from India from various borders in Sylhet in the past one month.
Major Nurul Huda, Deputy Commander of BGB’s 48th Battalion, gave this information at a press conference on Thursday (July 24).
He said that from June 23 to July 24, various types of smuggled goods worth 467.8 million taka were seized in various places in the border areas of Sylhet.

Of these, goods worth around 51.5 crore taka were seized from various border areas of Gowainghat and Jaintapur and Sunamganj in Sylhet on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Major Nurul Huda said that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), which has always been striving to protect the country’s borders and prevent smuggling, is providing a solid foundation for national security and economy by conducting regular operations. In continuation of this, Sylhet Battalion 48 BGB has recently conducted several successful operations and seized a large amount of smuggled goods, which is a clear proof of the BGB’s strict stance and professionalism in border protection.

Banglabazar, Sangram, Utma and Minatila BOPs (Border Outposts) under Sylhet Battalion were involved in the operations on Tuesday and Wednesday. The seized goods included Indian sunglasses, Myfair and Clope G cream, cows, betel nuts, tomatoes and sugar. In these operations conducted based on intelligence information, the alert members of BGB were able to seize this large amount of goods by showing immediate and successful response.

The Deputy Commander of 48 BGB said that every member of BGB is playing a leading role in curbing smuggling with a combination of patriotism, dedication and professional skills. The presence of BGB at the border has now become a big obstacle for smugglers.

On Thursday, Major Nurul Huda told reporters, “As you know, as always, this time too, 48 BGB has been able to seize a large amount of smuggling at the border. In the last 48 hours, illegal goods worth about 5 crore 12 lakh 41 thousand 220 taka were seized in the task force operation conducted in the Gowainghat and Jaintapur border areas. A team of 27 brave units of the army assisted us in this operation.

He said, in the last one month, the Sylhet sector has seized illegal smuggled goods worth about 46 crore 78 lakh taka. Of which, Sylhet Battalion has seized illegal smuggled goods worth 31 crore, Sunamganj Battalion 10 crore, and Zakiganj Battalion 5 crore taka.
