CEC calls AI a major threat to upcoming election
NN Online:
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has identified Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a major challenge to the integrity of the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections, calling it “a modern threat more dangerous than weapons.”
Speaking at a stakeholder consultation meeting at the Khulna Regional Election Office on Saturday morning, July 26, 2025, the CEC warned that AI-driven interference poses serious risks to electoral transparency. “We are closely monitoring technology-based threats to protect the election process,” he said.
Restoring public confidence, particularly among female voters, remains a top priority, the CEC added. “Our greatest challenge is to rebuild voter trust and ensure high turnout,” he noted.
Nasir Uddin stressed the need for complete transparency: “We want to conduct the election in broad daylight, not behind closed doors. Any failure to do so would endanger the nation’s democratic future.”
To support a secure election atmosphere, the Election Commission has also launched operations to recover illegal weapons and combat terrorism ahead of the vote.
“We are fully committed to delivering a free, fair, and transparent election,” the CEC said.
The meeting was presided over by Khulna Regional Election Officer Faisal Quader.
