Edu secy transferred following protest
Special Correspondent :
Senior Secretary Siddiq Zobair has been removed from his post at the Secondary and Higher Education Division and transferred to the Ministry of Public Administration, according to an official notification issued Wednesday afternoon.
The abrupt move follows a tense protest staged yesterday outside the secretariat, where demonstrators called for the resignation of both the education adviser and the education secretary. The situation escalated when a group of protesters stormed the secretariat premises at approximately 3:45 PM, leading to clashes with law enforcement. Police responded with sound grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Siddiq Zobair, who was serving on a contractual basis, has now been attached to the public administration ministry, though no new assignment has yet been announced. Sources within the education ministry confirmed that the proposal for his removal was submitted to the chief adviser late Tuesday night. The order was officially issued following the president’s assent.
Confirmation of the transfer first surfaced when Mahfuz Alam, adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, posted on his verified Facebook page that Zobair had been relieved of his duties at the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
The reason for the protest remains officially undisclosed, but it is believed to stem from growing dissatisfaction with recent policy decisions and administrative issues within the education sector.
Authorities have not yet commented on whether further administrative changes are expected or whether any legal action will follow the violent protests. Further developments are awaited.
According to sources at the ministry, the proposal to withdraw Siddiq Zobair was sent to the chief adviser for approval late yesterday night. After receiving the approval, the order was issued following the president’s assent
