Hasnat Abdullah slams health adviser as symbol of Yunus’s nepotism

NN Online:
National Citizen Party (NCP) southern region chief coordinator Hasnat Abdullah has accused Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum of being appointed purely due to her close ties with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, calling her the “clearest example of Yunus’s nepotism.”

Speaking at a rally at the Chandpur Bus Stand area on Wednesday, Hasnat said, “She was appointed under Muhammad Yunus’s brother quota. Her only qualification is that she worked at Grameen Bank and is close to Yunus.”

Hasnat questioned the adviser’s competence, saying, “She doesn’t understand the health system or medicine. Her presence is pointless. Her salary is a burden on the people, and she rides in a government car while contributing nothing.”

He further criticized her for reportedly seeking medical treatment abroad: “She goes to Singapore for treatment—what kind of health adviser is that? Her salary and allowances should be returned to the state, and she should resign immediately.”

The remarks came during an NCP program where party leaders met with families of those killed during the July Uprising. Many relatives were seen in tears as they shared their struggles and hopes for the future.

Earlier in the day, a condolence march was held from Chandpur Circuit House to the rally venue in honor of the July martyrs.
