Education Adviser denies lapses, won’t step down
NN Online:
Education Adviser CR Abrar on Wednesday firmly stated that there was no deviation in the Education Ministry’s actions following the tragic crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara. He also made it clear that he has no intention of resigning voluntarily.
“I don’t believe there was any shortcoming in my duties. I have no plan to step down of my own accord,” Abrar told reporters at the Secretariat. “However, if it is deemed that I failed in any way, I will leave if asked. I have nothing to hold on to or defend.”
His remarks came a day after angry students staged demonstrations outside the Bangladesh Secretariat and later entered the premises, demanding the resignation of both the education adviser and the secretary. The Education Secretary has already been removed.
When asked about the government’s position on calls for his resignation, Abrar replied, “That’s for the government to decide. I am doing my best to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to me.”
In response to a question on whether he should stay in office after what some have called mismanagement surrounding the suspension of exams, he said, “It seems you’ve already reached a verdict. I don’t believe there was any mismanagement — and I’ve been trying to clarify that.”
