BNP to launch probe committee on Mitford murder
NN Online:
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced plans to form a probe and fact-finding committee to investigate the recent murder in Dhaka’s Mitford area.
At a press conference held Monday (July 14) at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the committee will examine the incident and present the real facts to the public.
Fakhrul alleged that there is reason to believe the murder is being politically exploited to serve hidden agendas, particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming national election. He questioned whether similar reactions followed other violent incidents — including the triple murder in Muradnagar, the attempted killing of an imam in Cumilla, and the murder of Jubo Dal leader Mahbub Molla in Khulna.
“There is sufficient ground to believe that the Mitford murder is being used as part of a broader political conspiracy to destabilize the country,” he said.
He also noted the public’s concern over the killing, which happened in daylight near law enforcement, with no immediate intervention.
