Tarique’s leadership praised as symbol of democratic struggle: Barrister M.A. Salam

Sylhet Bureau :
BNP’s central international affairs secretary and human rights adviser of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman Barrister M.A. Salam said that Tarique Rahman, the flag bearer of democracy and nationalism, has continued the anti-fascist movement in Bangladesh with his charismatic leadership even while in exile in the UK. The long movement to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty and his unwavering faith in his love for the people of the country have taken him to a unique height. Therefore, anti-fascist unity was basically formed under his leadership. As a result, the general public of Bangladesh erupted in anger against fascism and created a unified platform to regain the lost democracy.

He made these remarks at a meeting titled “July Uprising: Future Bangladesh and Tarique Rahman” with media workers working in Sylhet at his initiative on Saturday afternoon at a prestigious hotel in the city.

Barrister Salam said that Tarique Rahman’s fiery speech raised several historically important slogans. For example, “Take back Bangladesh, if you are afraid, you are finished, if you stand up, you are Bangladesh.” “The decision on which path Bangladesh will take will be made on the streets. Finally, that is what happened. Finally, with this slogan, “One point, one demand, Sheikh Hasina’s resignation” – the fire of the movement spread from cities to villages, from schools to colleges and universities, and the platform of the movement took its final shape. Then Tarique Rahman united all the political parties against fascism and called for a simultaneous movement. He said, basically, this is how the movement was formed under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, and in July 2024, fascism fell through the joint uprising of students and the public, standing in that context of the past. The movement to restore democracy and his prudent leadership made Tarique Rahman a great hero.

Barrister Salam said, Tarique Rahman, after this long struggle, liberated the country and all the people of the country from the clutches of fascism and the murderer Hasina through the July uprising. This The nation will remember the sacrifice of those who were martyred in the movement forever. Therefore, today it is the demand of the hour to prepare a list of those who were victims of disappearances, murders and extrajudicial killings. Speedy trial and state recognition must be ensured. Respectful rehabilitation and a safe future for every family must be ensured.
