India must act on justice, not politics: Press Secretary
NN Online:
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Wednesday called on India to uphold principles of justice and moral responsibility, stating that it can no longer shield an individual credibly accused of crimes against humanity.
“We urge the Republic of India to act with conscience and moral clarity,” Alam said, referencing India’s refusal to extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “That position is no longer defensible. No alliance, strategic interest, or political legacy can justify the murder of innocent civilians.”
Posting from his verified Facebook account, Alam highlighted a recent BBC Eye Investigations report that directly implicated Sheikh Hasina in “state-sanctioned” killings during the 2024 student protests. He noted that the BBC’s findings — including authenticated audio recordings and verified video footage — provide damning evidence of her role in the violent crackdown.
“This should be the final straw,” Alam said. “It’s one thing for ordinary citizens to accuse her of orchestrating mass murder. But when an institution like the BBC, with global credibility and forensic resources, corroborates these claims, the truth becomes undeniable.”
He emphasized that the leaked audio, authenticated by world-renowned forensic experts, confirms the violence was not accidental or spontaneous, but officially authorised. “This is no longer hearsay. The evidence is forensic, verified, and impossible to ignore,” he added.
Alam also invoked the historical friendship between the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, and India, stressing the importance of justice and accountability.
“We urge India to recognise the gravity of this moment and to uphold the values of justice, rule of law, and democratic integrity,” he said. “The people of Bangladesh deserve justice, the victims deserve closure, and the world must see that no leader is above the law.”
