Chittagong Dry Dock takes over NCT operations from saif powertec

NN Online:
Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL), operated by the Bangladesh Navy, has officially assumed control of operations at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chattogram Port, ending Saif Powertec’s 17-year tenure.

The Chattogram Port Authority handed over the terminal to CDDL at midnight on Sunday under a six-month agreement, said Port Secretary Omar Faruk. The transition follows a government directive and approval from the port’s board.

CDDL began operating the terminal from Monday under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM). Originally part of Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation, the dry dock facility was transferred to the Bangladesh Navy on December 23, 2015, and now operates as a state-owned limited company under naval management.

Saif Powertec’s Managing Director Tarafder Ruhul Amin confirmed the formal handover and noted that the company will continue to manage operations at the Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT) under a separate deal.

Chattogram Port comprises four container terminals: Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT), New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), General Cargo Berth (GCB), and Patenga Container Terminal (PCT). Among these, NCT is the busiest, handling 44 percent of the port’s total 3.2 million TEUs in the 2024-25 fiscal year.

Saif Powertec had been operating the NCT since 2007.
