Former CEC ATM Shamsul Huda passes away

Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda passed away in Dhaka on Saturday morning at the age of 83.
He reportedly breathed his last at his residence around 9:00 am and was later taken to United Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at approximately 10:15 am, said Parvez Hasan, an official of the hospital’s customer service department.
His brother-in-law, Ashfaque Quaderi, confirmed the news and said his funeral prayer (namaz-e-janaza) will be held after his daughter returns from the United States.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter.
ATM Shamsul Huda was appointed Chief Election Commissioner on February 5, 2007, under the Fakhruddin Ahmed-led caretaker government. He served until 2012, overseeing the 2008 general elections. During his tenure, Muhammad Sohul Hossain and M Sakhawat Hossain served as election commissioners.
Before his role as CEC, Huda had a long career in public service and also held senior positions in the private sector, including as director and vice-chairman of GSP Finance Company (Bangladesh) Limited.
