NN Online:
Three members of a family were injured in a brutal acid attack on Thursday night (July 3) in Godkhali Mathbari village of Jhikargacha upazila, Jashore.
The victims were identified as Rahela Khatun (48), her daughter Ripa Khatun (26), and her 8-year-old son Yanur. All three were rushed to the Jashore 250-Bed General Hospital following the incident.
According to Rahela’s husband, Jamat Ali, the suspected attacker is Jasim, a domestic worker employed by Fazlul Haque from nearby Mathpara village. Jasim had reportedly been harassing Ripa with romantic advances for a long time, which she consistently rejected. Enraged by the rejection, Jasim allegedly hurled acid through a window of the family’s home around 8:00 pm, injuring Rahela, Ripa, and young Yanur.
Neighbors rushed to the scene upon hearing screams and helped transport the victims to the hospital.
Dr. Hasib Al Newaz of Jashore General Hospital said the condition of the child, Yanur, is critical, while Rahela and Ripa sustained minor burns and are currently being treated in the general ward.
Sub-Inspector Zakir of Jhikargacha Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that police have visited the scene and launched an investigation. He added that legal action will follow based on the findings.
