Govt to procure 1.10 lakh MTs fertiliser

The government today approved separate proposals for procuring some 1.10 lakh metric tons of fertilizer alongside approving the tender proposal and draft LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) to import LNG from the spot market for 2025 and 2026.
The approvals came from the 25th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase held at Bangladesh Secretariat today with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Finance Adviser said that the day’s economic affairs and purchase committee meetings approved a number of proposals — one on container handling at Chattogram Port alongside as usual import of fertilizer. Besides, there was a proposal on LNG import which is very critical for supplying energy to the private sector industries, reports BSS.
He said more cargos of LNG would be required, but those would be procured in phases.
Dr Salehuddin said they also approved proposal for renovating some 23 primary schools at Rangpur district suitable for using those as shelters in case of disasters while another approved proposal was on supplying some essential drugs.
Besides, he said some marine vessels like feeder vessels would be procured.
Answering to a question, he said that the interim government would not hesitate to utilise the fund allocated earlier which is necessary for holding the next election.
The Finance Adviser also informed that he would sit with the press on the contemporary issues from time to time.
