Govt grants Tk 64.1m for teachers, students

The government has announced a special grant amounting to Tk 64.1 million for 7,100 beneficiaries, including teachers, students, and educational institutions across the country.
According to an official letter issued on June 17 by Lieuja-ul-Jannah, Deputy Secretary of the Budget Branch under the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, the grant will be distributed in the current fiscal year under the “Special Assistance” category.
The beneficiaries of the special fund include: 101 educational institutions, each receiving Tk 100,000, totaling Tk 10.1 million. 250 teachers and staff members, each receiving Tk 30,000, totaling Tk 7.5 million, 4,047 secondary school students, each receiving Tk 8,000, totaling Tk 32.38 million, 1,428 college students (Class XI-XII), each receiving Tk 9,000, totaling Tk 12.85 million, 1,274 undergraduate and postgraduate students, each receiving Tk 10,000, totaling Tk 12.74 million.
The letter also stated that the funds will be distributed via “Nagad”, the digital financial service operated by Bangladesh Post Office.
Institutional grants will be transferred to the respective bank accounts of the institutions, while individual recipients, including teachers and students, will receive the funds directly through mobile banking.
Earlier on September 17 last year, the Ministry of Education had issued a policy guideline signed by the then Senior Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid for allocating special assistance to non-governmental educational institutions, their affiliated staff, and students of both public and private institutions.
The policy included the formation of a nine-member district-level committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner and coordinated by the District Education Officer to screen applications.
A 13-member central committee was also formed, headed by the Additional Secretary (Admin & Finance) of the Ministry and coordinated by the Deputy Secretary or Senior Assistant Secretary (Budget), to make final decisions on fund disbursement.
Ministry sources stated that priority has been given to:
Underprivileged and remote educational institutions ,Teachers and staff suffering from critical illnesses ,Students from poor, marginalized, disabled, or third-gender communities ,Talented but financially struggling students.
Special consideration was also extended to those affected by serious health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, kidney failure, hepatitis, diabetes, paralysis, tuberculosis, use of prosthetic limbs, and victims of severe accidents.
Commenting on the initiative, Siddiqur Zobayer, Senior Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, said: “The government is committed to ensuring inclusive access to education. This special grant reflects our continued support for disadvantaged but deserving institutions, teachers, and students across the country.”
