Inu, Palak shown arrested

Staff Reporter :

Former Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak have been shown arrested in a murder case related to the death of Ramzan Mia, who was killed during an anti-discrimination protest in Dhaka last year. Both were produced before a Dhaka court on Wednesday morning.

Following a plea from the investigating officer, Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi approved the move to officially show the two former ministers arrested in the case.

According to the case statement, Ramzan Mia took part in a student-led anti-discrimination protest on July 19 in West Rampura area of Dhaka.

During the demonstration, members of the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and ruling party activists allegedly opened fire on the protesters. Ramzan was shot in the chest around 10:00 AM.

Locals immediately rushed him to Better Life Hospital, where doctors recommended his transfer to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for specialised treatment.

However, he was instead taken to nearby Mugda Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around noon.
