1st Test against Lanka: Tigers have 127-run lead

Bangladesh have a 127-run lead after scoring 495 in the first innings on Day 3 against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium in Sri Lanka on Thursday.

In reply, Sri Lanka scored 368 for the loss of four wickets before the two umpires pocketed the bails for the third day.

Bangladesh resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 484 for the loss of nine wickets.

Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana resumed their first innings with the over-night score of naught respectively.
Nahid Rana (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis off Asitha Fernando when the Tigers’ first innings came to an end.
Sri Lanka had a good start with two openers Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Udana put on together 47 runs in the opening stand before Lahiru Udana (29) was caught & bowled by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam.
After Udana’s dismissal, Pathum Nissanka and Dinesh Chandimal repaired the damage adding together 157 runs for the second wicket partnership before Chandimal was caught at the leg slip by Shadman Islam off right-arm spinner Nayeem Hasan when the hosts’ total was 204 for the loss of two wickets.

Chandimal knocked a sedate 54. His 119-ball innings was belted with four fours.

After Chandimal’s dismissal, Pathum Nissanka and Angelo Mathews built another notable partnership adding together 89 runs in the third wicket stand before Mathews was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off occasional bowler Mominul Haque when Sri Lanka’s score was 293 for the loss of three wickets.

Mathews made 39 from 69 deliveries featuring three fours and a sixer.

After Angelo’s departure, Pathum Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis made another remarkable partnership scoring together 38 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Nissanka was bowled out by by right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud when the home side’s total was 331 for the loss of four wickets.

Nissanka notched up a superb 187. His 256-ball innings was studded with 23 fours and a sixer. It was Nissanka’s third century in Test cricket.

After Nissanka’s dismissal, Kamindu Mendis and Dhanajaya de Silva added together 37 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership before the bails were drawn for the third day.

Kamindu Mendis remained unbeaten with 37 runs. He hit four fours in his 56-ball innings.

Dhananjaya de Silva remained unbeaten with 17 runs.

Mominul Haque, Hasan Mahmud, Nayeem Hasan and Taijul Islam picked up one wicket each giving 24, 49, 86 and 126 runs respectively.
