Robbers in RAB disguise snatch Tk 1cr in Uttara

A group of robbers looted Tk 1.08 crores from a representative of Nagad distributor in a daring daylight posing as the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel in the city’s Uttara area on Saturday morning.

According to CCTV footage of the area, a man was found going riding on a motorcycle with a bag. Suddenly, a black microbus waylaid the motor vehicle. Then the man was found running in fear. Some persons of the microbus, wearing RAB dresses, chased him. At one stage, he was caught and boarded into the microbus.

The muggers later released the man in Uttara’s Sector 17 and sped away with the money.
The victim man has been identified as Abdul Khalek Noyon, a Nagad distributor residing in a flat on Road No. 12 in Uttara Sector 13.

Marking the issue, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Uttara Division, Mohidul Islam, said, “I personally visited the scene shortly after it occurred. We’ve collected CCTV footage from the area and are actively analysing it to identify those involved.”

An investigation is underway as police suspect the use of RAB emblem was a calculated move to mislead and intimidate.
When asked about the amount of money stolen, the police officer said the victim reported that his bag contained a little over Tk1 crore.
