Farmers, traders disappointed at low Eid cattle sales

Even though Eid-ul-Adha is knocking on the door, the livestock market of Ishwardi is not filling up. There is an adequate supply of local cattle at the market. However, sellers are not getting the expected price. The specialty of Eid-ul-Adha is buying animals and sacrificing them. Since people are not much interested in buying clothes and garments, the market for buying cows and goats remains busy until Eid. But this time, the market is full of cows and cows. But the number of buyers is less compared to that. So no one is bidding as expected. Especially the disappointment is high among those who brought cows.
Arankola in Ishwardi is the largest cattle market in the northern region. Only cows and buffaloes are bought and sold in this market. A huge number of cows and goats are sold in Aovapara market in another Sahapur union. Both these markets are run by government leaseholders. Cows and goats are bought and sold in Arankola on Tuesdays and Aovapara on Sundays. Apart from this, animals are also bought and sold in other markets.
According to the Ishwardi Livestock Office, there are 3,027 small and large cattle and goat farms in Ishwardi. These farms have 73,500 animals ready for sacrifice. However, the demand is 43,000 cattle and goats.
On Tuesday (May 27), it was seen at Arankola Market that local farmers and traders had imported cows from various places including neighboring Lalpur, Banpara, Atgharia, Santhia, Bheramara Upazilas to sell them. Thousands of cows were lined up for sale. There were no sales as the number of buyers was low. Mujahidul Islam, who had come from Saraikandi to sell 3 cows, expressed disappointment and said, “I was hoping to sell the cows at a profit, but no one even asked the price, let alone sell them. Such a situation has never been seen at this market before.”
Cattle trader Aynal Sheikh said that the sale at the market was low and that the 7 cows brought to the market could not be sold because some buyers offered low prices. This time, the cows will have to be sold at a loss.
The market’s lessee Mizanur Rahman Runu Mondal said that although there is an adequate supply of cows at the market, the farmers and cattle traders are extremely disappointed as there are no buyers. In previous years, the presence of buyers at the market was noticeable. But this time, the situation is completely different. Let’s see what the situation will be like?
