No possibility of national election beyond June next year: Rizwana
NN Online:
Amid speculation surrounding the resignation of the chief adviser, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has reaffirmed that the next national election will be held either by December this year or by June next year, as committed by Prof Muhammad Yunus.
“There is no scope to deviate from this timeline—not even by a day,” she stated firmly.
Rizwana made these remarks while clarifying the government’s position on the upcoming election. She was speaking to reporters after attending the “24th National Conference and AGM 2024 of the Zoological Society of Bangladesh” held at Dhaka University on Friday.
“We are not in power—we are only entrusted with a responsibility,” she explained. “This responsibility can only succeed if everyone cooperates. The chief adviser has given a specific timeframe, and we are committed to it.”
Addressing the public, she said, “We’ve come a long way through many challenges. The reform commissions have submitted their reports, and discussions to reach political consensus are already underway with participation from all parties. A clear timeline has been set for the election. Previously, there was one tribunal; now there is another. Judicial proceedings will officially begin tomorrow. Our appeal is that no obstacles should hinder this process. We want to see it through properly—with everyone’s cooperation.”
