Bangladesh Bank has simplified the process for students wishing to send money abroad for language courses.
In a circular issued on Thursday, the central bank announced that students will no longer need its prior approval to remit foreign currency for language courses, even if the course is not a prerequisite for a bachelor’s degree.
Previously, banks were only permitted to release funds for undergraduate, postgraduate, and language courses associated with academic programmes.
Under the revised rules, students can now directly pay for any recognised language course through their banks.
According to industry insiders, this policy shift is expected to benefit students seeking employment overseas-particularly in countries like Japan, where language skills are essential.
They also noted that the new process can be completed without the involvement of recruiting agencies, potentially expanding job opportunities abroad.
