We must save rivers to protect N’ganj Dhaka Divisional Commissioner
Staff Correspondent :
The scorching heat is unbearable, reminding us how crucial it is to plant trees. Without trees, we won’t get oxygen, and without oxygen, we can’t survive for more than two minutes. That’s why I believe planting trees is like an act of worship.
We must plant trees for our own needs, for society, and for future generations. Narayanganj once had many rivers and canals. These canals need to be restored to prevent waterlogging in the area.
To save Narayanganj, we must protect its rivers. Currently, fish in the Shitalakshya River have almost disappeared. I hope the people of Narayanganj will support the District Commissioner. The people of Narayanganj are resilient. They have always played a leading role in various movements and struggles.
The Divisional Commissioner made these remarks on Saturday (May 10) while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the ‘Green and Clean’ initiative organized by the District Administration in front of the District Commissioner’s office.
The initiative was launched under the slogan, “Narayanganj will be green, the Dandy of the East will be world-class.” A colorful rally was held in the morning to mark the event, and 10,000 trees were planted in 14 locations across Narayanganj.
Addressing the issue of drug abuse, Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury urged parents to be vigilant. He pointed out that if we look at the records of drug users, we will see that almost everyone started with cigarettes. If we can keep our children away from tobacco, we can hope to keep them away from drugs in the future.
The event was presided over by Narayanganj District Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah and attended by Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumder, City Corporation Secretary Md. Nur Kutubul Alam, District Civil Surgeon Dr. A.F.M. Mushfiqur Rahman, and Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu, along with other officials.
