After dues cleared, govt urges Chevron to resume $65m Jalalabad gas project

NN Online:

Bangladesh has urged Chevron to restart its $65 million Jalalabad gas compression project in Sylhet after clearing all overdue bills.

The project, aimed at boosting gas production, was on hold since April 2024 when Chevron refused to proceed without payment of over $200 million.

Following Petrobangla’s payment settlement on April 21, 2025, and a formal request on April 20, Chevron indicated readiness to resume work.

Chevron estimates that the project could add around 352,000 mmcf of gas annually.

The decision to reinvest is now pending the Houston headquarters. Chevron has praised Bangladesh’s efforts and emphasized its commitment to the country’s energy and economic progress.
