ACC raids DNCC office over graft in cattle market leasing
Staff Reporter :
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a raid at the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) office in connection with allegations of irregularities and corruption in leasing the Gabtoli cattle market in the capital.
The operation, led by ACC Assistant Director Rubel Hasan, began around 11:00am on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters after the raid, Rubel said the ACC had received numerous complaints regarding anomalies in the lease process of the Gabtoli cattle market.
“We have conducted this drive to investigate those allegations. Relevant documents related to the lease have been collected and will be thoroughly examined,” he said.
Hasan further noted that the DNCC administrator had suspended the lease due to discrepancies in the process, while direct collection of fees continues in the interim.
“There are conflicts between the lease policy of the city corporation and the policy of Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority [BPPA]. Government purchases are published on the BPPA website. But revenues are not published,” he added.
Welcoming the ACC raid, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz told reporters that action will be taken against officials who violated policy guidelines in the leasing process.
