Shadman’s ton powers Bangladesh to take lead over Zimbabwe

Opener Shadman Islam’s century powered Bangladesh to take 64-run lead over Zimbabwe in the first innings of the second Test on the second day at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram, the port city of the country on Tuesday.
Shadman Islam notched up a magnificent 120. His 181-ball innings was studded with 16 fours and a sixer. It is Shadman Islam’s second century in Test cricket.
Electing to bat first, Zimbabwe scored 227 in the first innings on the second day.
In reply, Bangladesh were at the stumps at 291 for the loss of seven wickets.
Bangladesh had a solid start as the two openers Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque Bijoy put on together 118 runs in the opening stand before Bijoy was trapped leg before wicket by Blessing Muzarabani.
Bijoy made 39 from 80 deliveries featuring four fours.
After Bijoy’s dismissal, Shadman and Mominul Haque contributed together 76 runs for the second wicket partnership before Mominul Haque was caught at the deep midwicket by Ben Curran off Wellington Masakadza when the Tigers’ total was 194 for the loss of two wickets.
Mominul Haque scored 33 from 64 balls including two fours and a sixer.
Shadman Islam was trapped leg before wicket by Brian Bennett when Bangladesh’s score was 194 for the loss of three wickets.
After Shadman’s departure, Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed together 65 runs in the third wicket stand before Shanto (23) was caught at the short midwicket by Nick Welch off Vincent Masekesa when the hosts total was 259 for the loss of four wickets.
After Shanto’s departure, Jaker Ali Anik (5) was caught & bowled by Masekesa when Bangladesh’s score was 267 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim was unfortunately run out by a direct throw of Wessly Madhevere when Bangladesh’s total was 274 for the loss of six wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim notched up a polished 40. His 59-ball knock was belted with four fours and a sixer.
After Mushfiqur Rahim’s departure, Nayeem Hasan (3) was caught at the second slip by Sean Williams off Masekesa when the home side’s score was 279 for the loss of seven wickets.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was on 16 and Taijul Islam was on 5 before the bails were drawn for the second day.
Masekesa captured three wickets instead of 44 runs, while Blessing Muzarabani, Brian Bennett and Wellington Masakadza picked up one wicket each giving 44, 49 and 77 runs respectively.
