ACC sues ex-MP Enamul, wife over illegal assets

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed separate cases against former Awami League MP Enamul Haque and his wife, Tahura Haque, over allegations of acquiring illegal assets worth nearly Tk 26 crore and engaging in suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 2,240 crore in their bank accounts.
ACC Director General (Prevention) Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development during a briefing at the anti-graft watchdog’s headquarters in Dhaka on Monday (28 April).
According to Akhtar, Enamul, the former Rajshahi-4 lawmaker, is accused of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 18.08 crore. Additionally, there were suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 2,239.15 crore across his 22 bank accounts.
A separate case has been filed against his wife, Tahura, for allegedly acquiring illegal assets valued at Tk 7.95 crore. There were also suspicious transactions totalling Tk 1.72 crore in her two bank accounts, Akhtar added.
Enamul Haque was arrested on 16 September last year on charges of inciting violence at protests led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 5 August. He had been elected to parliament from Rajshahi-4 for three consecutive terms (2008, 2014, and 2018) as an Awami League candidate
