‘Students’ demands to be resolved soon’
Khulna Correspondent :
Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has assured students of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) that their demands will be addressed within the next few days, as the government takes steps to restore normalcy on campus and the residential halls of the university. The halls will reopen this afternoon following a fresh decision made in the university’s 102nd emergency syndicate meeting held yesterday.
Speaking during a visit to the university on Wednesday morning, where students have been observing a hunger strike, the advisor said, “The process is ongoing. The students’ demands will be resolved soon. Those responsible for crimes on campus will be brought under the law.”
He emphasized that no one is above the law and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring justice. “Students must return to a normal academic environment,” he urged, adding that the expulsion orders and cases filed against the students would be withdrawn.
The adviser further stated that a committee has already been formed to address the students’ grievances and will act on its recommendations once the final report is submitted.
He called on the students to end their hunger strike and cooperate in restoring stability on campus. Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Firoz Sarkar and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam were also present during the interaction with the protesting students.
According to a notification issued by Registrar Md. Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan on behalf of the# Vice Chancellor, the reopening date has been brought forward from May 2 to today.
Previously, the 101st emergency syndicate meeting on April 14 had decided to resume academic activities on May 4 and reopen the halls on May 2. However, mounting student pressure and recent developments prompted an expedited decision during yesterday’s meeting.
