IAB rally demands Faizul Karim as BCC mayor

The activists of Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB/ Islamic Movement of Bangladesh) has held a rally and mass procession demanding the declaration of Nayeb-e-Ameer (Vice Chairman) Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim as the legitimate mayor by annulling the election results of the Barishal City Corporation election. The rally and mass procession was held in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in Barishal city on Saturday.
People from different classes and professions participated in the program styled as ‘People from all walks of life of Barishal City Corporation’. Among others Rezaul Karim, Aman Hossain Riyad, Gazi Ridwan, FM Salahuddin, Barishal University students Ibrahim and Mehedi, BM College students Hannan Uddin Shakil and Hasibul Hasan Shanto, Habibullah Rony, and Barishal Polytechnic Institute student Zahirul Islam Jihad, youth and student activists of IAB spoke at the rally.
Speakers at the rally said that Mufti Faizul Karim, the IAB candidate with the ‘hand-fan’ symbol, was the real winner in the 2023 city elections.
But with the help of the terrorist forces of Awami League and direct cooperation from the administration, IAB candidate was forcibly declared defeated by influencing the election.
The speakers said that the Election Commission has played a biased role in favor of the ‘Boat’ symbol without maintaining impartiality.
On the day of the election, there were attacks, intimidation and casting fraud votes at various centers in the city.
So the public demanded that the people of Barishalcity want to see the real winner as their mayor.
Based on that demand, they called on the government to cancel the election and recognize Mufti Faizul Karim as the legitimate mayor.
Mentionable on April 17, Mufti Faizul Karim filed a case with the Barishal Sadar Senior Assistant Judge Court and the City Election Tribunal.
In the case, he requested to cancel the election results and declare him as the winner.
Lawyer Sheikh Abdullah Nasir filed the case on his behalf on behalf of the IAB candidate.
