NASA group chairman Nazrul Islam remanded for 10 days

A court has granted a 10-day remand for Nazrul Islam Mazumder, former president of the Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB), former chairman of EXIM Bank and chairman of NASA Group, in connection with two separate murder cases.
On Wednesday (February 12), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M A Azharul Islam approved the remand.
The same court also granted a seven-day remand for Shafi Modasser Khan Jyoti, son of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
Earlier, police requested a total of 20 days of remand for Nazrul Islam Mazumder, seeking 10 days in each of the Dhanmondi and Jatrabari murder cases. He was produced in court from prison for the remand hearing.
During the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor PP) Omar Faruq Faruqi represented the prosecution, while the defense lawyer appealed for the cancellation of the remand and for bail.
After hearing both sides, the court granted a total of 10 days of remand, five days for each case.
Meanwhile, in the attempted murder case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station, police sought a seven-day remand for Shafi Modasser Khan Jyoti. After the hearing, the court approved the request.
According to the Dhanmondi case details, on August 5, at around 5 PM, a student named Shamim (13) joined a protest march in Dhanmondi against discrimination.
When the march reached the Kalabagan area, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations allegedly launched a sudden attack, injuring Shamim. He was taken to Suhrawardy Hospital, where doctors declared him dead the following day, August 6.
Following the incident, Shamim’s mother, Jahanara Begum, filed a murder case on October 3 at Dhanmondi Police Station, naming 128 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Similarly, according to the Jatrabari case report, on August 5, during an anti-discrimination student movement in Chittagong Road, Jatrabari, a young man named Imon Hossain Gazi was shot and killed.
His brother, Anwar Hossain, filed a case at Jatrabari Police Station on August 28, naming 85 individuals as accused.
