Stocks extend gaining streak

Country’s both the bourses — Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)– on Thursday witnessed an upward trend like earlier as optimistic investors put fresh funds into lucrative shares.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, advanced by 9.1 points to settle at 5,179 points as against 5,170 points in the previous trading session, reports BSS.

Market analysts observed that the market witnessed a range-bound trading activity on Thursday with buyers being on the slightly dominant side in chasing sector-specific scrips in anticipation of short-term gains, while cautious investors opted for profit booking in certain scrips and preferred to observe the market’s trend.

Meanwhile, market turnover slightly decreased by 8.8% to Taka 4.3 billion as against Taka 4.7 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Textile (17.7%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (13.8%) and Bank (9.9%) sectors. Sectors displayed mixed returns, out of which Services (3.6%), Financial Institutions (2.2%) and
Textile (1.5%) exhibited the most gains on the bourse on Thursday, while Paper (-2.0%), Ceramic (-1.0%) and Food (-0.7%) exerted the most corrections.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 194 advanced, 146 declined and 57 remained unchanged.
