9,000 textbooks found on truck, 1 held

Police seized a truck loaded with books in Sherpur Sadar upazila on Wednesday night, which contained 9,000 textbooks meant for free distribution among students of grades eight, nine, and 10, and detained one person in this connection.

According to locals, the large haul of books was recovered around 9pm from the Lachmanpur Daripara area in the upazila. Locals noticed the suspicious movement of the truck and alerted the police. Subsequently, Sherpur Sadar police arrived at the scene and detained one individual along with the truck.

Police sources revealed that the truck was transporting books allocated for free distribution to secondary-level students. The truck was seized, and a man named Maidul Islam was detained for questioning.

Sherpur Education Officer Md Rezuan said: “The books are not allocated for the Sherpur district. Initial information suggests that the books may have originated from Kurigram.

Sherpur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jubaidul Alam said: “The matter is under investigation. The police are working to uncover the full details of the incident.”
