57 Bangladeshis return from Lebanon

Staff Reporter :

A total of 57 Bangladeshi nationals safely returned home from war-torn Lebanon on Thursday.
Their repatriation was facilitated through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

According to the Foreign Ministry, these individuals were among the stranded Bangladeshis in conflict-affected Lebanon who voluntarily opted to return home. So far, 1,199 Bangladeshis have been repatriated from Lebanon through 18 flights.

Upon their arrival at the airport, the returnees were warmly welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the IOM. The IOM provided each returnee with a pocket allowance of Tk 5,000, food supplies, and initial medical assistance.

Ministry officials spoke with the returnees about the devastating impacts of the ongoing conflict and inquired about their well-being. Tragically, one Bangladeshi national was reported dead in a bombing incident.

The Government of Bangladesh has pledged to bear the full cost of repatriating all Bangladeshis who wish to return from Lebanon due to the conflict. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut continues its efforts to ensure the safe return of those desiring repatriation and the security of those choosing to remain.
