Mirzapur mustard fields dotted with yellow flowers

In Tangail’s Mirzapur upazila, the mustard fields are dotted with yellow flowers. Farmers are dreaming of good results. Nature lovers rush to catch a glimpse of the yellow hue of mustard blossoms across the horizon. The upazila agriculture department is expecting a good yield of mustard as the weather is favorable this season. The smell of the yellow flowers of the mustard leaves the bees rushing to take the juice from the flowers. Honey is being collected in the cage of beekeepers with bees. Ignoring the cold and thick fog in Konkan, the beekeepers from different areas are sitting in cages (bakra) next to the mustard fields and collecting honey through bees. In a few areas of the upazila, it has been seen that the mustard field is full of turmeric.
Today Thursday (December 26), Mirzapur Upazila Agriculture Office sources said that the target of mustard cultivation in 11,000 hectares of land this year has been set, but the production has increased due to favorable weather conditions. Mustard includes Tori, Maghi and Bari 14 and 17 varieties. During the winter season, the mustard fruit festival prevails across the horizon of Mirzapur upazila. Wherever the eyes go, only the yellow color of the mustard fruit fills the mind. Nature lovers rush morning, noon and afternoon to smell the yellow scent of mustard flowers along the mustard fields across the horizon. Again the young leaves of mustard are used as vegetable, the seeds are used as oil when ripe and the stalks are roasted.
Meanwhile, around the mustard field, the beekeepers have set up cages and are collecting honey through bees. Mouals are collecting honey in mustard fields across the horizon of Upazila Municipality, Bhaora, Warshi, Bhadgram, Banail, Anaitara, Bahuria, Fatepur, Jamurki and Latifpur Unions. Mouals said that they used to collect honey by sitting goats near the mustard field. Mustard field honey is of good quality. He sells honey for 300 to 350 taka per kg. Profits are fairly good. However, due to winter and thick fog in Konkan this year, many problems have arisen in their honey collection.
In this regard, Mirzapur upazila agricultural officer agriculturist Mahmuda Khanam said that although the target of mustard cultivation has been set on about 11,000 hectares of land in Mirzapur upazila, he expects both yield and production to be good as the weather is favorable. Farmers are being given free inputs including fertilizer seeds to increase mustard production. Besides, honey collection has become quite popular in the cages of the mauals around the mustard fields. They are being fully supported by the Agriculture Department.
