Pintu denied, Rezaul cleared

Staff Reporter :The Divisional Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka, appellate authority for the election, upheld the rejection of the nomination of BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu on Saturday.Pintu filed nomination as a Mayor candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). His counsel Aminul Islam expressed his disappointment with the decision. Earlier, many candidates won in the elections from such situations, he said, adding that now they would take the next course of after consulting with Pintu. The Returning Officer earlier disqualified Pintu for the election as he was convicted in BDR mutiny case in 2009. Now Pintu is serving life imprisonment. But the other Mayor candidate of DNCC Rezaul Karim Chowdhury got the clearance for taking part in the polls as his appeal was accepted. Talking to the journalists, Rezaul said he mistakenly put the number of National Identity Card in place of voter number. He said he was happy as his plea was accepted by the authority.
