RUPSA holds workshop on critical issues of kleptocracy

A divisional workshop on Kleptocracy was held on Sunday in Rangpur addressing the critical issue of kleptocracy and explore solutions for promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

The knowledge-sharing workshop was organized by RUPSA, a Khulna based development agency, with the financial assistance from the International Republican Institute (IRI) under the Transnational Responses against Corruption and Kleptocracy (TRACK) III project.

The event brought together political integrity champions, government officials, civil society members, academics, journalists, students, and thought leaders focusing the theme “STOP Kleptocracy,” that provided a platform for stakeholders to share insights and strategies to combat kleptocracy.

While speaking at the program, Md. Hossain Sharif, Assistant Director, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), Rangpur committed to combating corruption and kleptocracy within its jurisdiction.

Despite some limitations, we believe the state will take necessary steps to make the ACC an autonomous and effective institution, he added.

Dr. Md. Magfur Hossain, Associate Professor at Rangpur Govt. College, presented the keynote paper highlighted the detrimental effects of corruption from an academic perspective.

The workshop concluded with the signing of an Integrity Pledge, committing to collaborative action against kleptocracy.

The program was chaired by Hiranmoy Mondol, Executive Director of RUPSA, and with a presentation by Shaikh Mostafizur Rahman, Director-Program of the same development agency.
