We are not in favour of excessive delay in elections : Parwar

Staff Correspondent  :

Miah Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP, stated that his party does not support excessive delays in holding elections. However, he noted that while an extended period is unnecessary, rushing the process is also not advisable. He emphasized that if elections are conducted without reforming key state institutions, it will not yield favorable outcomes.
He made these remarks on Friday while responding to journalists after attending a district Rokon (member) education camp organized by the party in Ananda Palli, Rupganj, Narayanganj.
The Secretary General elaborated that if the election process is rushed, it will resemble the elections of 2014, 2018, or even 2024, where people go to vote only to be told by ruling party activists, youth groups, or even police that their vote has already been cast. “This is why I believe time isn’t the key issue here. Instead, it’s critical to ensure an environment for free and fair elections,” he added.
