74th founding anniv of Mongla Sea Port celebrated

Mongla Port the 2nd International Sea Port of the country, celebrated its 74th founding ceremony on Sunday (December 01) by the Port authorities in a befitting manner at Mongla under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district. On the occasion, a colourful rally that was brought out from the headquarters of the port paraded to the gate of jetties. It was participated by all the officers and employees of the Port that while it was led by Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, Chairman of the Port Authorities who later, marked the ceremony releasing the pigeon in the sky. Just at 12-01 am all kinds of ships both foreign and native staying at the port whistled for long one minute without any interruption. It is officially learnt that through the gazette notification PD(48)/50/1 issued on December 01, 1950 this Port was established as Chalna Port and in the year 1987 it was renamed as Mongla Port Authorities.
On the day some 32 officials and employees of the Port Authorities were ceremonially honoured for their best performances while some 29 establishments of different categories which used the Port and played an important role for the overall development of the Port were also honourd on this auspicious occasion. At that time member of the Port (harbour and marine) Captain Md. Kibria Hossain, member (Finance) Kazi Jabed Hossain, Member Kazi Jabed Hossain (Engineering and development), Dr. A K Anisur Rahman, Secretary Kalachand Sinha, Member (Director Administration) Md. Nuruzzaman, all the heads of the different departments and all the port users while Chairman of the Port Authorities Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman was present as the chief guest in the occasion.
