Feni Correspondent :

Journalist Main Uddin Patwari, the victim of the wrath by the then fascist Police Super Jahangir Alam Sarkar for publishing news about the role of the police and criminal syndicates in the much-discussed Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s burning to death, is still facing dozens of cases. After getting bail in all the cases from the high court, the he has to appear before the lower court every week since 2019 after.
This puts the journalist’s financial, mental and normal life in jeopardy.
According to sources, on March 27, 2019, Nusrat Jahan Rafi, an alim candidate of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa, was sexually assaulted by principal Siraj Ud Daula. On that day, the local crowd caught the principal and handed him over to the police. Rafi’s mother Shireen Akhtar filed a case at the police station as the plaintiff.
The assistants of the principal threatened to withdraw the case. At one point, on the eve of the exam on April 6, Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s body was poured kerosene and set on fire on the roof of the madrasa. The police rescued her and sent her to the hospital. She died in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10. Rafi’s family alleged that the SP-OC made excuses to make some people including
Principal Siraj accused in the case. The biased role of the police officers came under fire in the media and social media. After the case was transferred to PBI, the people involved in the incident started to be arrested one by one. Then on April 19, daily newspaper Alo published the headline “Feni’s police will be dressed up”.
Investigative news against police syndicate of the district including OC Abul Kalam Azad of Model Police Station and DIWAN Md Shahinuzzan of DSB. is published. At one stage, the order of the police
headquarters ordered the withdrawal and transfer of the police officers associated with the syndicate, including the SP and OC.
It is known that SP Jahangir had a closed-door meeting with some police officers before leaving Feni.
