Human chain in Savar against DNCC for dumping waste

During the 15 years rule of the Sheikh Hasina government, who fled the country due to the anti-discrimination student movement, the local residents formed a human chain in protest against the use of the land by the Dhaka District Commissioner on behalf of the Dhaka North City Corporation without acquiring the land and using it as garbage on about 25/30 acres of land in Bolyarpur Mauza of Savar.
On Wednesday (October 23) morning, the land owners formed a human chain on the side of the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Bolyarpur, adjacent to Madhumati Model Town. At the end of the human chain, the victims submitted the transcript to the administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation.
The land owners in the human chain said that Dhaka North City Corporation is using our land under the project titled Aminbazar Landfill Expansion and Modernization by forcibly filling our land with garbage and using it repeatedly in the name of land acquisition and not even paying its fair value and compensation. The land owners demanded to immediately vacate the filled land and return their land as before. They said, without any valid acquisition, such activities are severely damaging our fundamental rights to own and use land and we as land owners are aggrieved. They also said that for 15 years, fishing and agriculture have been stopped in our land. As a result we land owners are suffering financially and living inhuman life. As a result we were forced to form a human chain at the dumping site at Bolyarpur. The speakers said at this time – the fascist Sheikh Hasina’s government is unfairly damaging our only livelihood by forcibly filling the land with garbage. The water is being polluted due to dumping all the garbage in Dhaka city. We keep getting sick.
Hundreds of people of different ages and professions including women, children, youth, old people participated in the human chain with different banners and festoons. Director Md. Manjur Hossain, co-director Abul Basar, organizing secretary Sohel Ahmed Babu, co-organizing secretary Mostak Ahmed, publicity secretary Lutfar Rahman Sarkar, co-publication secretary Anwar Hossain and treasurer spoke in this human bond. Mosharraf Hossain and later gave the manuscript to the administration under their leadership.
