HPV vaccination starts in C’nawabganj

Month long vaccination programme of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) was inaugurated in Chapainawabganj district on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Md. Abdus Samad inaugurated the programme by vaccinating the girls at Chapainawabganj Government Girls Highschool in the town as the chief guest.
The inaugural function was held with the Civil Surgeon of Chapainawabganj Dr. SM Mahmudur Rashid in the chair.
Among others, Deputy Director of Local Government Debendra Nath Oraon, District Education Officer Md. Abdur Rashid and Deputy Director of Family Planning Department Md. Anwarul Azim spoke on the occasion.
A total of 89,691 girls of five upazilas in Chapainawabganj district have been brought under the immunization during the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination with a view to protecting them from cervical cancer, Civil Surgeon Dr. SM Mahmudur Rashid disclosed this.
It was further disclosed in the meeting that the girls reading in class five to nine and the girls outside the schools aged from 10 to 14 will be vaccinated during the vaccination programme.
According to the Chapainawabganj Civil Surgeon office, 19,402 girls in which 17,941 school going and 1,461 outside the schools in sadar upazila, 31,879 girls in which 31,631 school going and 248 outside the schools in Shibganj upazila, 13,831 girls in which 13,186 school going and 645 outside the schools in Gomostapur upazila, 8,651 girls in which 8,332 school going and 319 outside the schools in Nachole upazila, 5,849 girls in which 5,778 school going and 71 outside the schools in Bholahat upazila and 10,079 girls in which 10,026 school going and 53 outside the schools in Chapainawabganj municipality have been targeted to be vaccinated free of cost.
