2 held for attacking journalists

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) on Sunday arrested two youths for attacking on-duty journalists at a 14-party alliance rally at city’s Laldighi Maidan on March 11. The arrested were identified as Ahmed Hossain Sunny, 17 and Ananda Das, 16. SM Tanvir Arafat, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DB, CMP said police on secret information arrested them from city’s Lal Dighi area around 3:30pm for their involvement in the attack.
Eight journalists of different private television channels were injured while covering a rally of Chittagong 14-party alliance at city’s Lal Dighi Maidan on March 11. The Roads and Bridges Minster Obaidul Quader was delivering speech at the programme when the incident took place. Later, the minister apologized for the untoward incident and directed AL to take organizational measures against the attackers. Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) filed a case with city’s Kotwali police station against unidentified miscreants in this connection.
