8 cops hurt in Khagrachhari attack

UNB, Khagrachari :At least eight policemen, including an assistant superintendent of police, were injured in an attack by a group of gamblers at Kamalchari on the outskirts of the district town on Friday night.The injured policemen were identified as Sarwar Alam,39, assistant superintendent of police, Mizanur Rahman, 40, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, Tarun Chakma, 38, assistant sub-inspector, and Arif, 26, Rana Pratap, 28, Najir, 30, Belal Hossain, 47 and Kalam, 22-constables.Acting on secret information that a gang of gamblers were engaged in gambling in the area, a team of police conducted a rail in the area around 9:30 pm, said Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of police.Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gamblers hurled brick chips towards police, leaving eight policemen injured.The injured were given first aid at a local hospital.However, police could no arrest anyone as the gamblers managed to flee the scene.
