Francophonie Festival begins

Francophonie is an international organisation representing countries and regions where French is the first (mother) or customary language; and/or where a significant proportion of the population are francophones (French speakers); and/or where there is a notable affiliation with French culture.
A weeklong Francophone festival- Semaine de la Francophonie began in unison at multiple venues in Dhaka and Chittagong from March 10 till March 22 to celebrate the French Language and the International Organisation of La Francophonie.
The seven Francophone diplomatic missions in Bangladesh along with Alliance Française are stepping up with several events throughout the week. The 2015 Francophone week in Bangladesh aims at celebrating the cultural diversity of the Francophone community worldwide while promoting the shared values of La Francophonie. Francophonie is as well present in Bangladesh with TV5, broadcasting TV programmes in French Language.
On this occasion, a joint press conference was held yesterday at the Alliance Française de Dhaka in the city’s Dhanmondi area.
The press conference was addressed by Ambassador of France Sophie Aubert, High Commissioner of Canada Benoît-Pierre Laramée, Ambassador of Egypt Mahmoud Ezzat, Ambassador of Vietnam Nguyan Quang Thuc, Caroline Trautweiler, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Switzerland, Said Kasmi, Charge d’affaires, Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco and other high-officials from the participating countries.
The weeklong programmes include screenings of a wide-range of films, book fair, debate competition in French LabCitoyen 2015, cooking contest, exhibitions, dance performances by students, life performance by Magician Benoit Rosemont, etc.
