Some three persons including a motor-biker were killed in three separate road mishaps in Sharankhola and Mollahat Upazilas in Bagerhat district during the last two days, according to the reports received here.
An old passerby was killed on the spot just in front of Mahila Dakhil Madrasa at Rayend Bazar, the Upazila headquarters of Sharankhola in the district on Sunday (July 07) in the morning at about 8 am when a speeding unidentified easy-bike hit him from his front violently and fled away. As a result, the passerby injured fatally. Some locals recovered and took him to Sharankhola UpazilaHealth Complex where the physician on duty declared him dead. The unfortunate passerby identified as one Sultan Khan (70) hailed from the village Nidra Sakhin under Taltala Upazila in Barguna district.
It is learnt from the locals that the unfortunate old man came to the house belonging to his brother-in-law (husband of his sister) Tanzam Mridha of village Uttar Kadamtala under the Upazila one week ago in order to pay a visit to the house. AHM Kamruzzaman told, the dead body was taken to the PS from the Hospital in order to complete the legal proceedings.
Another report states that one motor-biker and a passerby were killed on Khulna-Dhaka Highway at 2 different places under Mollahat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday (July 06) in the morning at about 7 am. The motor-biker was identified as Asad Shaikh (40), son of one Sadek Shaikh of village Jugirhat in Khuna district. He was killed on the Highway near at “Maa Filing Station” when an unidentified heavy vehicle dashed the motor-bike violently from its behind and fled away. On the other hand, on the same day at about 8-30 am a passerby named Anwar Hosain Khan (37), son of one late Salam Khan hailed from the village Gangni under Mollahat Upazila was killed on the spot at Dor Boalia on the same (Khulna-Dhaka) Highway when an unidentified heavy vehicle ran over him and fled away. Shaikh Nuruzzaman Md. Mehedi Hasan, Officer-in-charge of Mollahat Highway PS confirmed the matter and told, within the difference of one and half an hour’s those 2 road mishaps were taken place on Khulna-Dhaka Highway (the portion under Mollahat Highway PS) only for high speeding of vehicles. The Officer added, both the dead bodies were recovered and were taken to the PS. After the completion of the legal proceedings the dead bodies will be handed over to the respective family members.
