Univ teachers’ strike against Prottoy on
DU Correspondent :
The public university teachers in Bangladesh will continue their work stoppage for an indefinite period, demanding exclusion from the Prottoy Pension Scheme.
The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association (FBUTA) has declared a complete break in service until their demands are met.
The teachers argue that the universal pension scheme is discriminatory and will decrease their benefits, degrading their dignity and discouraging future generations from joining the teaching profession.
They are not protesting for their own rights, but for the rights of future generations of teachers.
A meeting was scheduled between the teachers’ leaders and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, but it could not be held as Quader had an urgent call.
The teachers are expecting to talk to him soon and are hopeful that if they can directly discuss the matter with Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina, the problem can be resolved.
The strike has led to a complete halt in academic and administrative activities at all 35 public universities across Bangladesh, affecting thousands of students.
The teachers say they are ready to resume classes and exams quickly if their demands are addressed, but will continue the protest if the government does not respond.
