4 to walk gallows for killing driver

A tribunal in Kishoreganj has sentenced four men to death for the murder of a CNG-run auto rickshaw driver.
The verdict was announced by Senior District and Sessions Judge Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque on Wednesday afternoon.

The convicted individuals are Liton Miah, Rabbani, Md. Jowel, and Kajol. In addition to the death sentence, the tribunal imposed a fine of Tk 2 lakh on each convict.

According to the Case Diary (CD), on September 22, 2020, the accused hired the autorickshaw of Sohel alias Badr Khandkar from the Durjoy Mor area of Bhairab Upazila. Later that night, around 9 pm, they killed Sohel at the Kalikaprasad area on Bhairab-Kishoreganj Road and fled with the autorickshaw.

The following morning, police recovered Sohel’s body from the Kalikaprasad area. On September 25, 2020, Sohel’s father, Abdul Hannan Khandkar, filed a murder case against unknown assailants at the Bhairab Model Police Station.

On November 22, 2021, PBI Inspector Jamil Hossain submitted a charge sheet against the accused in court. The judgment was confirmed by Public Prosecutor Abu Naser Farooq Sanju Advocate.
