Mahir: 1st Bangladeshi to pilot US aircraft single-handedly
Staff Reporter :
Ahnaf Abid Mahir, a 16-year-old of Bangladeshi descent, has made history as the first Bangladeshi to pilot an aircraft single-handedly in the United States.
On Sunday, June 30, at 7:00 AM local time, Mahir took off and landed single-handedly at Whiteman Airport in Los Angeles.
Following written approval from his flight instructor, Mahir will be able to operate training flights without passengers for the next year.
Upon turning 17, he will receive his private pilot certificate, allowing him to pilot single-engine aircraft for non-commercial purposes.
Mahir’s father expressed immense pride and gratitude, saying, “This is a huge achievement for us. I thank Allah for this blessing.”
His mother also asked for prayers, hoping Mahir can maintain and build on this accomplishment in the future.
Flight instructor Elias explained that under the regulations of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), individuals can solo pilot an aircraft starting on their 16th birthday, which Mahir has successfully done.
Mahir’s achievement has been celebrated by the Bangladeshi expatriate community in the United States. Many second-generation Bangladeshis in the US are now choosing to become pilots, believing this profession will bring them greater success and opportunities.
