Jubo League leader beaten to death

A Jubo League leader was beaten to death as he allegedly attempted to rape a pregnant housewife in Chandina, Cumilla, on Tuesday midnight.
The deceased has been identified as Tanvir Ahmed Bhuiyan, 35, son of Babul Bhuiyan from Ganipur village in Barera Union. He was the Barera union Jubo League’s vice president.
The incident took place on Tuesday night at the home of one Akkas Ali in Goramara village under Barera union of the upazila.
On Wednesday morning, police recovered the body of the victim from the scene and detained Selim Mia, the victim’s husband, for questioning, confirmed Chandina Police Station officer-in-charge Ahmed Sanjur Morshed.
According to victim housewife, the accused Tanvir entered her room on Tuesday late night, and attempted to rape her. Her husband, Selim, intervened when he sensed the incident and during the ensuing struggle, Selim struck Tanvir on the head with a stick, resulting in Tanvir’s immediate death.
Local Union Parishad (UP) Chairman, Ahsan Habib Bhuiya, expressed doubts about the incident, describing the circumstances as suspicious, questioning that how such an event could occur without neighbors noticing as the house located at a densely populated area. Tanvir’s mother, Nilufa Begum, accused the housewife of fabricating the incident, alleging that her son was lured and murdered in a premeditated act. She demanded justice for her son’s death.
