A case has been filed against 26 leaders and activists, including Harichur Rahman Harich, chairman candidate of Gournadi Upazila election and General Secretary of Upazila Awami League, under the Cyber Crime Act.
The plaintiff in the case is HM Tarek, AL activist and resident of Bilbgram in Gournadi Upazila.The case was filed in the Barishal Cyber Tribunal on Thursday afternoon. Judge Golam Farooq directed the OC of Gournadi Police Station to submit report after investigating the complaints as soon as possible.
The defendants are upazila chairman candidate Harichur Rahman Harish, Upazila Chhatra League president Zubairul Islam Santu Bhuiya, Lutfur Rahman Dwip, Imran Mia, Sohail Sikder, Mir Nayan, Saddam Khan, Kazi Saimur Rahman, NH Azbi, Shakeel Khan, Piyal Sardar, KM Milan, HM Russell, Abir Ahmed, Sajibur Rahman Zia, Ratul Sharif, Sheikh Raihan Shawon, Talukdar Md. Ravi, Mehdi Hasan Shawon, Shahadat Talukder, Delwar Hossain Dilu, GS Zahidul Islam.
They have been accused of providing defamatory and misleading posts on their Facebook (Fb) IDs. In the complaint, the plaintiff mentions that the 26 accused in the case are known terrorists, drug dealers and rapists of Gournadi Upazila.
But the defendants have premeditatedly published offensive statements, false information-types of information, defamatory information on the website and published and disseminated through digital format with the intention of defaming Mahilara Union Chairman Saikat Guh Piklu, Upazila Chairman Candidate Habibur Rahman Habib, Mia Monir and Upazila Chairman Syed Monirunnahar Mary.
The defendant has been accused of creating enmity, hatred and hatred among the local people, destroying communal harmony, causing unrest and disorder, causing murder and injury, and attempting to degrade law and order, the plaintiff alleged.
