Bangladesh now a role model for dev: PM

Staff Reporter :
Prime Minister and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina reiterated Bangladesh’s status as a role model for development, pledging to continue the nation’s advancement despite challenges.

Speaking at the AL Central Working Committee (ALCWC) meeting at her official residence on Thursday evening, she emphasised the resilience of Bangladesh against adversities.

“The advancement of Bangladesh will continue by throwing ash to the face of enemies,” Prime Minister Hasina asserted, highlighting the nation’s progress across various sectors.

“Now no sector of the country is lagging behind,” she affirmed, pointing to visible advancements in education, health, and agriculture.

Sheikh Hasina underscored significant achievements such as the decline in mother and child mortality rates, improved healthcare access, and rising literacy rates. Despite global crises like the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, she credited her government’s timely measures for sustaining economic growth.

“Bangladesh will start its journey formally as a developing country from 2026,” Prime Minister Hasina declared, expressing confidence in the AL’s ability to lead the transition. She emphasised the trust placed in the party by the electorate, referring to the January 7, 2024, election results.

Critiquing opposition parties, particularly the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Prime Minister Hasina lamented attempts to undermine democratic principles.

“It is very unfortunate to take a lesson in democracy and voting rights from the BNP,” she remarked, recalling the AL’s historic struggle for democracy.

Reflecting on the AL’s return to power after 21 years, Hasina emphasised the party’s commitment to transforming the lives of the people and meeting their basic needs.

“We have given priority to grassroots development,” she affirmed, contrasting the AL’s approach with the legacy of terrorism, militancy, and corruption left by the BNP.

The Prime Minister also condemned the suppression of students and teachers protesting the atrocities in Gaza by Israeli forces, particularly in the United States.

“The action against agitated students and teachers in the United States is a gross violation of humanity,” she declared, urging reflection on the notion of humanity amidst such injustices.
