Water-level fall causes crisis of drinking water

Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :

The water level in Ishwardi area is gradually going down.

Every year before the onset of drought in Chaitra, water shortage starts.

The water level has dropped by more than 35 feet in the month of Chaitra itself under severe drought conditions.

In various villages and municipal areas of the upazila, water is not rising in tube wells.

The crisis in high areas is dire. There is an acute shortage of drinking water in Ishwardi and surrounding areas.

It is reported that the ongoing moderate and severe heat waves and drought have caused groundwater levels in Ishwardi to fall far below normal. The cry for fresh water is everywhere.

Since the beginning of Baisakh, the people’s lives are hot in the scorching heat.

There is a shortage of food and cooking water along with bathing.

Even the water lines supplied by the municipality are not getting water properly due to falling water level.

Although there is water in the line, there is a problem in storing water in the house tank due to weak flow.

The entire upazila including the municipal area is facing extreme suffering for water.

After visiting different areas, it is known that there has been a water standoff in different areas of the city for several days.

The male members of the house take a bath from the nearby pond or elsewhere and collect water for the house in buckets and pitchers.

There are deep tube wells or submersible pumps nearby to collect water for food and cooking.
